End of year wrap-up...

Working on report cards. My goodness, they take forever! So glad I am almost finished. We are going to have a 'star' STARBURST celebration in a couple of days with the following star printout that shows students recent VIP scores. Our end of the year class party will be a "we had a ball in first grade' celebration. The students will be divided into small groups and rotate to play cage ball, throw the ball in the hole game, enjoy round snacks, and decorate a picture frame with circle foam decorations. They will end by autographing beach balls that they will take home to enjoy. We HAVE had a ball in first grade!

On another note...someone had a printable of movement activities that you paste onto popsicle sticks and place in a can. They were activities like "do 10 jumping jacks." I can't remember where I saw this. Can anyone direct me?

Enjoy the end of your year!

Hip Hip Hooray!
I just got back my VIP results which tests the students on phoneme segmentation, nonsense word fluency and reading connected text and ALL of my students met goal in ALL three areas (Minus my 2 very new students for which I do not yet have scores and whom I have not taught for long.)!  In the 4 years I have been back to teaching, there has always been 1 or 2 students that did not meet benchmark in at least one area. So- I am beyond thrilled with these scores. These students have grown and grown! I think a big difference this year has been consistent parent communication, more fluency and word practice...as well as setting goals WITH the students. Celebrate good times!

Learning Celebration

Our big learning celebration is tomorrow with all of the parents coming. Kids are SO excited. They are performing the reader's theater below and reading their original poems. We will watch a Photo Story and the students will share learning strengths and goals through "student led conferences." We will end with a class poem and then I will surprise them with end of the year memory books to keep, that highlight their work throughout the year. Should be a great day.
